Will You Tell Mum?

By birksy

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

Why didn't you answer that, Dad, Why press busy, when all you're doing, Is walking down the shady side of This busy road, with us hanging back? Did you see who it was, did you Choose not to speak, did you Make a note to ring back later, Did you not want us to hear? And when we reach the park, will You walk to the side, away from Us, and talk quietly to the caller, Talk away from us? Will you tell Mum who has called, Or keep it in your mind, Dared not write it down, Scared to make it real? Why didn't you answer it, Dad, Can you not hear my voice in you, I'm older but not as stupid, as You once thought I was? Written July 25th, 2000 © on Jan 07 2002 08:40 AM PST, Simon Birks   0 • 9
