Drifting Away
As I reach out to touch your hand, my trembling fingers pass through your silken flesh. You turn toward me and I say, “hello”, not realizing your eyes are focused on the silhouette behind. As I part my quivering lips to speak, my softly spoken works are but a whisper in the wind. Your voice rings clearly in the frigid air, but your words are meant for more experianced ears. As I fall on the cold and icy ground, my piercing screams fade into the deafening silence. My dirty tears stain the bottom of your pant legs, yet still you do not notice me as I sob at your feet. Like an amber leaf on a swiftly moving stream you drift farther and farther away from me. Written March 11th, 2002 © on Mar 11 2002 12:46 PM PST 18 • 0 • 10
