Only a Day
By Convolution
I’ve only so much love to give Before the source shall have run dry, But if, this time, I use it all You would not hear me breathe a sigh. I’ve only so much life to live Before it’s said that I must die, But if I could not live like now No force could make my essence try. I’ve only so much road to walk Before I fall a bit too hard, But if someone would give their hand I’d make it down this boulevard. We’ve only so much wine to drink Before we’ve had our bodies’ share, But when we find that way to leave We’ll bid farewell to all we’ve bared. I’ve only so much boy to be Before my time will take its toll, But if that time stays just like this No grey shall shroud my latent soul. I’ve only so much sun to see Before my warmth is turned to cold, But if I keep the warmth I have I’ll meet this frost and break its mold. I’ve only so much err to make Before my heart can learn no more, But when I fall that final time I’ll lay down, smiling, on the floor We’ve only so much hand to hold Before our grip is torn away, So hear now, god, my silent prayer: I’d like to stay here one more day.
