Remember When
By countrygirl
I remember when I was a child and my parents seemed so old. And my grandparents really seemed ancient. And how I believed I would never be that old. And if I got to be that old, then surely, I would die soon. I remember when I wanted so much to get out of grade school and go to junior high. And then when I was in junior high I so wanted to go to high school. Well, I got to high school, and then I wanted to get out of school forever. And I did. At least for awhile. Then I went to work and had my own apartment and my own car and my own life and my own dreams and my own regrets. I remember when I went back to school part-time at night, so I could get a better job during the day. I remember how interesting school seemed to me then, and how boring my day job had become. Well, I finally graduated from college. I started a new career. Then one day, I looked in the mirror and decided I was getting old, in fact, I was old. At least as old as my parents were when they seemed old to me. And now I'm wondering how younger people look at me. Do they think I'm really old?
