My Winding Sheet for the Night

By Doc Watson

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

As we wind in and out of each other and the nightthe moon begs the sun to belay it's arrivalto give us the perfect light for the perfect stagefor the perfect act of love in which we entangle our frail formsI wish nothing more than for the world to end right nowso that we could invite entropy into our bedand smother it in our passion and fierce gazesThe universe would end before I leave you this nightAs your fingers dance across my shouldersthen move stealthily down my backI shiver and come to the brink of destructionwith you as my only lifeline, my only hopeAs the sun tries to creep up and steal the moon's view(it seems as though midnight had only just come)the sky heats and glows like the blood in our veinsWe are capable of words no longer, and so just breatheYou wrap around my body like a sheet,my sweat clinging you to meYour chest rubs against mine and you gasp again, stealing the breath out of my mouth we are so closeThe curves of your body give and sway with my every strokeas I fill you to the brim of tolerancewe would love each other until we crumble if we couldthe orchestra would swell if we had needed them to make our musicBut there is no need; your heart sings as it poundsbrushing against mine as your body moves up and downas we again change the form of our human knotit is now I who move, and move, and moveThe sun rises faster and faster with our motionsthe more light there is, the more radiant you areit glistens off of your moist body, catching in my eyesit makes me want to last through another night to see you in the sunrise againThe breeze blows across the dewed grass, chilling the moisture on our bodiesYour nipples erect even further than before, and if i could do anything but breathe i would wet them again with my tongueAs the increasing wind whips the grass blades across our bodies,we grip each other even tighter for more warmthmy muscles strain, your nails bite into my flesh,as the clouds darken the sky above and the rain begins to fallOur intensity grows even stronger as the storm turns violent, influenced by the ferocity of our lovemakingit feeds off of us, and thunder rolls as we peak, again and again and again, one culmination after the otherWe collapse in each other's arms, no energy left to separateso we lay there still joined in the midst of the lightning and torrential rainWe try to catch our breath, and lock ourselves in the prisons of our eyesand so we wait...for night to fall again, for the moon to perfectly light our perfect stagei was trying to remain tasteful. did i? or was the nipples thing over the top...
