The Worst Line Ever

By Doc Watson

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

I wish we could be just friendsAfter falling from the heights of love(Or so i thought you meant it was)And crashing on the rocky bottomOf hurtI wish we could go back to being just friendsBut that would be denial of all that we had had togetherOf all that I felt for youHow could I hide it?Being just friendsI wish we could be just friendsBut after all that we've saidWhat else could we sayTo each other?I know that you wish we could be just friendsBut when I look into your faceFull of sadness, of hate, denial, and worryI know that your face tells me more than your words doI know that you could never really be my friendI wish we could be just friendsWill it happen?Time will tellAfter I cry my tearful wellAnd fill the gap in my heart where you used to beWith sand, tissue, and more miseryMaybe then we can be just friendsBut I don't knowI wish we could be just friendsThere is nothing, nothing I hate more than that line, could we still be friends? Hell No! It is no longer possible for me to look upon you in any other way; try sleeping with someone at work and then tell them you just want a professional relationship. See how that goes over.
