Do I see the light

By DocMccurdy

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

I see the tall trees swaying, I see the clouds so white, I see the mantis praying But, do I see the light. I see the streams flowing, I see the fish in the sea, I watch glow worms glowing, And birds nest, up a tree. I see the beauty in my heart, I see all that is humanity, I see the world as work of art, Yet, is this all a reality? Then I find myself face to face, With a very familiar sight, Injustice both to mankind and race, Tell me, do I see the light? For I must now meet this mirth, And see things in actuality, Yet, seeing good giving evil birth, I laugh at this profanity. At first it is hard to believe, What true picture I can paint, I know I should never conceive, My character I can forever taint. I know I can stand to lose, My freedom and my vanity, And forfeit all, should I choose, To draw a line with sanity. Although my life took on the day, I was borne out of maternity, When I think of death I pray, My belief to stay till eternity. Now what I learn is startling, All is not what it may seem, For only death is a sure thing, The rest is merely just a dream. So, I see myself getting old, I see my life passing by, No matter what is said or told, One day I shall say goodbye. I shall not wallow in self pity, I shall not hurt with false pride, I shall look up to reality, I shall not behind stone walls hide. I shall live not just exist, I shall not fall without a fight, I have one life, I must subsist, For, this is how I see the light.
