Nightmares Marrow (Challenge Runner-up)
By dyejunkie
It came, out of the mist Floating, creaking... On the floorboards my father said he'd fix He never did get round to doing that... It stumbled...had it given in? Creaking again, that deafening noise Always made me shiver That hand...that bony hand... Creeping round the door frame Clicking and cracking as the knuckles clenched around the wooden surface An arm...a foot, a knee, a leg. More and more suspense... And then...it came, it neared... That Skeleton I so often saw That came into my room He crept he snook upon my floor Watching him through a barely open eye He leers at me... I cant do this anymore I jump, awaken, It was only a dream Until...what's this? That hand...that bony hand Upon my door again The same old hand that comes at night Will my nightmare ever end? Please no, keep back I cant take this anymore You've cursed me one too many a night Am I still asleep? You run at me, so fast, so quick In a second you're at my side again Until, a flash, a spark, light regains A dream within a dream... ...no more...Hmph...whatd'ya think?
