Golden Depths
By evangelina
i walked along a golden pond to watch the leaves fall from the trees and i was surprised to find you waiting there for me. i noticed you had left a pile of rocks beside your feet to skip along the water around the sheet of bronze sunshine. i walked along a dreaded path to drink from a cup of death and i was not surprised to find you had left me. i noticed you had thrown the memory into the white lake of thirst so that it could no longer be mine. i swam in the depths of the oceans looking for an island to be my home and i was not surprised to see that weird little gnome. i noticed you told him all kinds of lies and persuaded him with bribes to make me think you were doing just fine. so imagine the shock that went through every bone when i dialed your old number and i heard that you left my life as best as you could. i noticed that your family blamed me for your trouble, and even though it may be true, it was enough for me to die for you too.
