Hugh Dedication to Hugh James Newby, his Mum, Dad and Sister and extended family, and All families who have lost a treasured cherub ***************************** Hugh I can hear you calling Mummy But I can't come back just yet I've got my screwdrivers with me And I think I'll fix the step An' the fence, an' the door an' everything I see Don't worry Mummy cause Nuggets here with me I can hear you calling 'Neke But Ive got some things to do I'm going in next door awhile Then I'll come back to you And we can play awhile before I have to go to bed I think we'll draw and colour in or watch TV instead I can hear you calling Daddy But I have a problem see I fell into the water and its very cold for me Nugget tried to get me out He couldnt quite reach I 'spose I wished you come and get me Cause I don't like water up my nose I can hear you calling Mummy But a bright star came to me I think it was an angel, then a little kid like me Reached out his hand, he knew my name Said 'Hugh come with me You can be a heaven cherub And a bright star too you'll be' I can hear you crying Mummy As you dress my body cold I wish that I could tell you that Im never getting old I'll always be your little boy I'll always love you so But sometimes when God needs us I guess we have to go You dressed me in my favourite clothes My working boots as well Remember Daddy, the big bulls I chased them off to hell I'm glad you put my screwdrivers In this place for me Cause up there in heaven maybe A fix it man I'll be I can see you sobbing Poppa Les As the sand trickles and falls You are the very bestest mate A Granpappa could ever be And when you come to heaven I reckon it will be fun You wont be so old anymore And we can jump and run We can play trucks and footy And go for walks and things And it will be the greates time Coz we will both have wings I see your tears my Uncle Rob And I worry bout you so You are the bestest Uncle a kid could ever know Remember how you swung me high With laughter in your heart Well if you hold that memory close We'll never be apart In heaven there are lots of kids Cause God needs us you see There's Mums and Daddys left their kids And miss them constantly So God gives us the job of smudging tears from misty eyes And handing out the biggest hugs And helpin them realise Heaven is a great big home Where I guess I like to be And I know that in the future You'll all be here with me ********************************************* Hugh was drowned in his next door neighbours spa at 18 months of age, a sad lesson for us all.
