Jacaranda
By Grannyrosie
Jacaranda Arms reaching to the Heavens, In humble supplication, Rows of these beseeching giants Bare , devoid of life. All winter, with such pathos, They seem to stand in prayer As if, expecting intervention, From a God, somewhere up there. Behold, a frenzy of small wings, Spring softly opens wide. Magically there appears, From somewhere deep inside A slight protuberance, a budding, Then in ecstatic glee A mass of blue electric crowns, This huge amazing tree. Covered, engulfed, devoured it seems, By endless blue on blue A canopy of saphire, A sea of radiant hue, This tree, a living temple, Proclaiming life reborn, Busy bees and butterflies Contrast colour from each dawn. Then emerald fronds of fairy fern Emerge within the blue, As leaves like swansdown filagree, Arrive to kiss anew 'Tis time oh flowers to leave this place The cycle to renew To fall as carpets endless sea, Of gentle, vibrant blue. Majestic limbs a canopy For fairy carpet strewn, And emerald seed pods swell, Where flowers were so soon, When time is right, they'll dry and crack There will be no despair, the seeds of life will gently spread From loving limbs up there. The flowers wither, feed the earth, The leaves provide a shade, That stretches down the avenues, Like soldiers on parade. Summers heat deflected, by silken foliage high, So sweet this shade, so cool, so green, For every passerby. Too soon, too soon, autumn arrives, Wind eddies briskly blowing, The leaves turn brown, then float away, The mottled bark now showing. The birds abandon now the trees, Life seems to slowly stop Too soon, too soon the chill of earth, Causes evey leaf to drop. When winter has her final fling, Then once again will come the spring. Trees mouth presses close to cool sweet earth, Drawing in nourishment for rebirth. This huge cycle of life goes on, Repeating endlessly. But nothing ever will I see, More beautiful than Jacaranda Tree. Written December 15th, 2001 © on Dec 14 2001 09:43 PM PST, Patricia Rosenberg 0 • 10
