Maiden Of the court
By Grannyrosie
MAIDEN OF THE COURT Upon my troth, verily, I see, Sweet fair maiden doth approach the court. Forsooth, to earn her admiration, Shoulst not it be, I pledge mine self, to give mine life, Protecting honour, and chastity. She so wondrous, divine, Behold! She smiles, as in a dream. My mind plays games, so fancifully. Thinkest perhaps, the time may be, When she, and me, shall play sweet music, Far beyond the realms of mortal imaginings. Attend; tis true, a nightingale resides, Within those precious rose bud lips. A spell is cast when ere she does speak, Passions desire dost reach its peak. Thus I, true humble servant to this gem, Shall carry aloft the banner of her house. Observe, she glides on jewelled feet, Flashing, innocent eyes discretely meet, Then cast down. AH! Sweet purity. Forever shall this servant be, In awe of thee. Not jealousy, nor covertness, Shall over ride mine deepest pride, (Tho I shouldst have her for my bride.), Content shall I eternally be, That she should smile, and honour me, With just one glance, Then, perchance, Will bloom sweet youthful romance. Not pressure shall I bring to bear, Nor yet distress a single hair, Upon the crown of she, so fair. True! Tho I of noble birth, Sorely I see mine lack of worth, To kiss the footsteps where she has trod. Yet, in the name of every God, I cast mine heart to yon maiden, Avow forever, I shall be there. I shall sweep the crumbs that she may scatter, No longer shall sanity matter. Observe, sweet purest maiden mine, I breathe thy name in reverence, silently, Enraptured at the thought of thee, Eternally. In your service, wouldst it be that I should die.
