River turtles
By Grannyrosie
RIVER TURTLES Kerplop!, A big rain drop, Into the river falls, Followed by so many, Until, it pours. Shwish !, The reeds are parting, Two beady eyes appear, A snake ? NO !!That head is large. A sigh, as drawing near, Behold, this precious creature, Heavens !, There are two, Turtles, from the river, Clambering slowly into view. Shells of upturned salad bowls, Encrusted with green/brown slime, Tiny legs, like dolly pegs, Precariously climb. The slope is steep, foothold lost, One back into the river tossed, Brave and bold unto the end, Stoically rejoins her friend. Seemingly unafraid of mortal intrusion, Little creatures venture further, Up the slope, a sandy spot, Seeking, I know not what. Illumination rushes in, as little legs do dig, A hole in sand's warm softness, Not too wide, Not too big. Reverse, plant seeds of natures love, From thence will life emerge, Then, wearily return to water, There, beyond the verge. A gift delivered again this day, Pray these eyes will never dim, A wonder of creation, Sent, with love, from HIM. Written December 25th, 2001 © on Dec 24 2001 09:28 PM PST, Patricia Rosenberg 0 • 10
