The Last chapter

By Grannyrosie

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

THE LAST CHAPTERAlone, in abject poverty,Arms resting, dejectedly on knees.Debris, squalor, there abound,Sobs of despair, the only sound.Clutter, rubbish, leftovers,Your only worldly goods.Others much more fortunate,Don’t understand your moods.Empty bottles testify,Depths to which you shrink.Solace found in depression, and,Oblivion of demon drink.Despondent, despairing, desperate,Eyes lack lustres shine,Thoughts anesthetized, as due to pain,Of facing life’s day, once again.Dispossessed, shunned by society,Lacking accepted graces, and norms.Hanging in just by a thread,Weathering life’s storms.Family gone, no comfort,No relief in sight.Praying every morning,You wont make it to the night.A past filled with laughter and love,Left behind by weakness call.To satisfy selfishness and lust,Sacrificed your soul, your all. The pages of your book of life,Have finally frittered away. This is the very last chapter,You face your final day. Will there be prayers for salvation? Will you beg for forgiveness as you go?In your solitude and emptiness,Only you will ever know.
