I Wonder Why?

By Gunslinger

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

I Wonder Why It seems that youth has hastened by- I wonder why? How often maidens mourn and cry- I wonder why? No longer, Mothers, babies love- Nor wife and husband mate like doves No marriage stands the push and shove I wonder why? Now people panic over whales- I wonder why? Preserve the wildlife, fish and snails- I wonder why? While beggars in the gutters lie, And infants by the millions die- It almost makes me want to cry- I wonder why? Nobility it seems has flown- I wonder why? And honesty is also gone- I wonder why? If some of us don't take a stand We're going to lose this once great land- And groan beneath the con'quer's hand- I wonder why? I see the end approaching fast- And wonder why? Our brightest hour now is past- I wonder why? Like Henry pledged his very breath- And longed for liberty or death- Of patriots, so few are left- I wonder why?
