The Game of Gossip

By Janju

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

THE GAME OF GOSSIP Chatter, chatter in the room Words tossed from wall to wall Each competing for a space As they do in basketball Passing bits of gossip From one to one it flies Pretending it's a secret Delight is in their eyes They say it in hushed voices As they dribble every word Passing on note paper Everything they've heard As the tidbits travel All around the court No one thinks of outcomes No one keeps the score Holding every tacky word They revel in the force To add yet another foul And exclude one from the court Finally as they make their goals To bring down one's good name They find someone else to hit And on goes the game Written November 1st, 2001 © on Nov 01 2001 06:33 AM PST   0 • 9
