Within The Steel Chamber
By jc mcgee
i waited hours within the steel chamberknowing only the cool sting of divisionand feeling remorsefully somberthere among the others, the broken and the damned, rejected, plastic, toy-box menunder the darkened eyesof porcelain dolls, stiff and calculating, every breath came somehow shorterand there seemed so little differencebetween the sacred and profanehad i revealed that hourthe imperfect parts,i would have been devoured-for our pulpy heartsare like the fruit of the seasonto ghoulish figurestwisted in boxesand devoid of reasoni recall that i fellswiftly awayand all the quaint faceshung in decay......and i heard my own voice, whispering, say,'remember me always -i leave you this day.'
