The Legend of Whiskers the Cat
By Jet
Poor Whiskers the cat has had a rough day. He doesn't know what else to do. All he wanted to do was frolick and play, Maybe snack on a mouse or two. But the mousetraps were empty of treasures. All the mice wisened up to his trap! Whiskers needed more drastic measures So he put on his thinking cap. Oh, he tried many ways to achieve his goal But not one of his plans did succeed. Each time the mice retreated into their safe hole It was very frustrating indeed. Then one day the turnips came, Out of the wild blue sky. And nothing was ever the same. The mice must fight or die! And out of the ashes of the great turnip war Arose a young mouse named Finnigan Duvall. He spoke of freedoms never imagined before He spoke of the day when the great cat would fall. Lead by young Finnigan the mice began a plan To bring about the end of Whiskers' dark rule And free the mice throughout the land, From a presence so evil and cruel. Dressed in armor of gleaming fishscales Finnigan took the lead of the mouse formation What happened next is a legendary tale An act that brought mousedom salvation. Ground powder of milkbone, Masked the mouse's advance As Finnigan went in alone Armed with his courage and chance. So they battled it out Old cat and young mouse. After all this was about Supremacy and power in the house. So the bards say it happened that day. Finnigan emerged from the fight. Victorius he was, the cat he did slay. Twas a marvelous, glorius sight. This is the legend of Whiskers the cat, The house pet that went astray. His ghost still haunts the welcome mat... Or at least thats what the stories say. This was originally a response to a challenge by Yellowbook. The challenge was to write a funny poem about a pet/pets death using the words mousetrap, milkbone, fishscales and turnips. Somehow my muse came up with this. :) Written December 20th, 2001 © on Dec 20 2001 03:55 AM PST 0 • 14
