Applecross, Western Scotland.

By John the poet

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

If you are able to visit Applecross one day, spend a morning at its bay. Explore the river outlet and its sand or just simply stand admiring the Cuillin Hills far away. They are so dark and contrasting… smooth on the left and more jagged on the right. It really is such a marvellous sight. The white walled village is to the south of the bay with similar Milltown just beyond and further south is its pond. If you like exploring, keep on going to Toscaig where you can do some fishing from its concrete pier, but my family caught nothing from there. Now, north of the bay about five miles away you'll find this lovely beach and stay playing in the lovely, soft sand all day. Also, let me inform you, if I may, that across the water is the Island of Raasay. If you enjoy walking and a bit of exploring, then set off in the morning by following the Applecross river, using the gentle, well kept track and seeing the marvellous scenery. It's smashing! Finally, if the day is clear and bright, travel up the mountain road to see the sight of many islands and mountain peaks. Yes, you really do need a couple of weeks to investigate and appreciate Applecross, the little Scottish village so sedate. This was a great place to camp in 1995. We hope to return there soon. It was simply wonderful.... and we had good weather. Written August 16th, 1995 © on Mar 16 2002 08:31 AM PST   18 • 0 • 10
