My Special Valentine

By John the poet

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

It’s so lovely being with you. It’s great holding your hand. It’s a thrill stealing a kiss from you so I hope you’ll understand. Your magical giggles and gorgeous smile make me thankful to be alive. If we can be kind and sincere all the while, our young friendship will surely survive. I enjoy watching the TV with you, perhaps on the settee or rug. It’s truly wonderful laughing with you and giving each other a hug. We could have a picnic, go swimming or choose special songs to share. We could rent a video, go dancing or whisper in each other’s ear. I just want us to be together, you see, having fun on the rides at the fair, playing games on the sandy beach and in the sea, or being ‘lost’ in a maze - do we care? Now we could go cycling across the dales, strolling arm in arm in the woods, watching frisky lambs chasing after their tails, or window shopping for fancy goods. Being parted for a day, can be really hard… so let’s write short letters to each other, maybe send a small gift or a funny card, to show that we miss one another. We’ll fill our rooms with photo’s, big and small, of us aged four, seven and ten perhaps holding a kitten, flower or ball on the lawn or by the tree-house den. I really like us being together, and sharing our concerns and dreams. We respect and care for each other as we fall in love, it seems. Let’s cook a special meal together and eat it by candlelight. Let’s share our happiness with one another and the future will turn out just right. This poem took over six months to get 'right' and the idea came about through a Milton Keynes, Bucks. U.K. leaflet found in a doctor's surgery. Teenagers had been asked how they could enjoy each other's company and these had been written down. The challenge was on to write a poem with my teenage daughter in mind. Written August 3rd, 2000 © on Feb 14 2002 09:01 AM PST   18 • 0 • 8
