A Day

By Jonathan Wikkins

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

There was a day,     not too long ago,           not unlike any other day,               except for a few minor things… Some friends were coming for the weekend… That afternoon,     we both took off work,           so we could be with them… We had fun with our friends,     our kids had fun with theirs… We went out with our friends,     went to a party… Little did we know,     what would happen later… You and I went home,     nothing out of normal… But that night, that night,     you went away,           never to return… I was only a short distance     from you, my lady,           when it happened… One moment alive,     the next moment,           you were gone… You died in my arms that night,     with your name on my lips,           and your love in my heart… You left a hole in my heart,     that will never be filled… One day, one day,     when my life is over… You and I will see each other again,     in the great hereafter… You will wait for me there,     and accept me with open arms… In the place where     all questions are answered,           all things are known… You will wait for me,     till my day comes,           and accept me,               for what I am… Your arms will be open to me again… Your smile will be full and bright… Your eyes will know I am yours… I will feel your love again… Just like I did,     that fateful morning… When you died in my arms,     a second time… © Jonathan Wikkins November 6, 2001 Revised March 6, 2008 All Rights Reservedthis one was what the pantoum "little did we know" was taken from Written November 6th, 2001 © on Nov 06 2001 12:40 AM PST, David Michael Shurtleff   life • love • pain • personal • sad • thoughts
