Another Day which will Live in INFAMY

By Jonathan Wikkins

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

There are now 2 days,     which will live in INFAMY… The first of those,     we all know well… December 7, 1941 The day Japanese forces attacked Pearl Harbor... But, that day was different,     for one thing,           we knew who did it,               and it was a military operation,                     carried out against a military target… Yet it still brought us into WWII… And almost 60 years later,     it still lives in INFAMY… Now, TODAY… There is a new day,     which will live in INFAMY… September 11, 2001 It will live as so,     for many reasons… For as we all know now,     it was a much different day… For on this day,     thousands of innocent people,           lost their lives,               not as a direct act of bravery,                     but in a cowardly,                         senseless act of terrorism… Carried out by fanatical persons,     for little, if any apparent reason… What will happen as a result,     of this newest day of INFAMY,           is anyone's guess… For it is too soon,     to know that answer… Let us all unite! Rally around our leadership,     and show those fanatical COWARDS;           what we in this country are made of! God bless America, and her people! Give us strength, resolve, and courage,     to face the days, weeks, and months ahead… © Jonathan Wikkins October 18, 2001 Revised March 6, 2008 All Rights ReservedWith this poem, I now throw my hat into the ring with all the other great poets, and writers who have written so eloquently on the tragedy of that horrible day...
