The Last Time

By Jonathan Wikkins

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

When I saw you last,     I was overwhelmed           with emotion… I was left alone,     with you,           for the final time… To this day,     I do not remember           everything that I said,               just bits and pieces,                     but,               what I do remember,                     Is what I did,                         the last time I saw you,                               and some of what I said. You were lying there,     motionless,           your skin cold to the touch,               no expression on your face… Your wedding ring,     I gave you was still           on your finger,               where I had placed it,                     so many years before. Then just before you left,     I took off my wedding ring,           and placed it,               in the middle of your chest…. Our symbols of our undying love,     remain there,           where I placed them,               to this very day… And there they will remain,     throughout all eternity. When they came     to take you away,           it was my eyes               that saw you last… With these words,     that I do remember,           on my lips… Your love for me,     still in my heart,           where it also remains,               to this day… I said:     “Dream well,           my love,     dream well… I will always miss you… Your name will be     on my lips,           when I join you,               where you are now. My love for you,     will always be           a part of my soul… Until the day when I join you     on the other side,           where you are now… Please wait for me,     look over me,           help me,               whenever you can… Goodbye     My love,               Goodbye”… © Jonathan Wikkins October 14th, 2001 Revised February 20, 2008 All Rights ReservedWritten October 14th, 2001 © on Oct 14 2001 06:06 AM PST, David Michael Shurtleff   angst
