To Bring the Muses...

By Jonathan Wikkins

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

I speak now to the Muses of Old, all writers say they have one, I now speak to all of them, by name… Caliope, the Muse of Epic Poetry, please lend me your words… Speak through me, your words of wisdom and courage, help me tell the stories of the past, and of the future... Euterpe, the Muse of Lyric Poetry, please lend me your words… Speak through me, your words of rhyme and rhythm help me tell the stories of joy, and of happiness or sadness... Erato, the Muse of Love Poetry, please lend me your words… Speak through me, your words of love, of a spouse, of a parent, of a child, and of love of my fellow man… Polyhymnia, the Muse of Sacred Poetry, please lend me your words… Speak through me, your words of inspiration, and prophecy, let me tell of things of a higher purpose, and of words from our higher power… Please allow the other muses to combine what is needed from them… Those of Terpsichore, the Muse of Song and Dance, Melpomne, the Muse of Tragedy, Clio, the Muse of History, Uramia, the Muse of Astronomy, and Thalia, the Muse of Comedy… I speak now to all the Muses, for there is need amongst the masses, to read of what is to come… Speak to their hearts, speak to them in their own way, allow them to see what you wish them to see, through OUR words... © Jonathan Wikkins April 21, 2002 Revised February 24, 2008 All Rights Reservedto the muses whom i have called here by name, please forgive me if i've misspelled any of your names!
