You Knew...

By Jonathan Wikkins

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

The day you left,     you knew… But how? You knew I’d move on… You knew I’d find love again… You knew what would happen with me, again… You knew… For a while there,     I thought I had done           everything right… But I found out later,     that I didn’t… But you knew… Then, when that went away too,     you knew I’d find someone new… But how? I remember more     of what you said to me,           that fateful morning… That beautiful morning,     when I looked out           into the sunrise,               and said: “Baby, you missed a beautiful sunrise.”     and you said:  “No, I didn’t, I was here, and enjoyed it with you.” I also now remember some more     of what you said… In addition to saying:     “You know now,           I love you more than my life itself.” You also said this: “There is someone out there     who’s waiting for you,           and I’ll lead you to her,               when you’re ready.” And now,     you’ve just said to me:           “Here she is,               I’ll help you when I can,                     the best way I can,                         just never forget                               what you learned with me… Never forget to love     with all your heart,           use your understanding,               use your gifts,                     and always know,                         I’ll be right there,                               right beside you,                                   helping you,                                         comforting you,                                             whenever you need it… And when your day comes, I’ll be waiting… I’ll wait for you both… When your day comes,     when you join me, here,           on the other side of the bridge,               we call Death.” © Jonathan Wikkins March 28th, 2002 Revised February 19, 2008 All Rights Reserved Written March 28th, 2002 Revised February 19, 2008 © on Mar 27 2002 06:17 PM PST, David Michael Shurtleff   spiritual
