The Last Song (A Challenge Poem)
By K chan
Enjeru, Enjeru - I was his angel And he was my pen's inspiration We stepped upon a rising cloud I thrilled to our escalation With this ascent rose my hopes I convinved myself that such Things as dreams and magic were As real as he I loved so much Letters sent back and forth With assurances of devotion That we hadn't met for real Made love no less an emotion The computer became my friend Because it showed him to me Though he was very far away I was sure we were meant to be But then his letters stopped He didn't answer any of mine I slowly became more desparate Pleading for him line by line Until, one day, that letter came The last from him I ever read I didn't have the strength to cry After I saw what it was it said "Dear Kaika," was written there At the very top of the page But someone else called me that Two years less than me in age "I'm not who you think I am, And I'm trying to apologize; Please try to forgive me, All I've given you is lies. That last time someone hurt you, I couldn't stand to see you sad. I pretended to be someone else; Please, big sister, don't be mad! I thought it'd only be a while, But now it's gone too far; Please don't let your heart hurt, Don't let this leave a scar. Kaika, big sister, I'm so sorry! I just hated seeing you cry. Don't be angry with me, Kaika, I swear never again will I lie!" My illusions were shattered I no longer could believe Shaking softly in the night Nothing left but to greive But to myself I gently mutter That I knew it all along That true love does not exist Yet it inspires one last songTrue story, though that's not the exact words th'letter came in, o'course. This is one lass you'll never catch playing that prank of "Secret Admirer" to her friends. A note to someone out there that's been wondering: Friends are those who try to do good by you but don't always succeed; that's how you know that they're -real-.
