Ugly Details
By K chan
Ye drifting beaut, my dream's beholder In stormy skies, the welcomin' shoulder Great wings upon which the sun shines Across thy scales are upsetting lines. From dragon-slayers who have gained Such knowledge of why you’ve remained Most feared of those who grace the blue With strength to any man or beast, outdo Slender fingers trace the path of thy scars Smaller eyes look to yours, jeweled stars Wisps of hair that brush across pale skin Crooning, pleading for her touch again A dainty crown of woven wild-flowers Gathered over peacefully shared hours By her hands, a mark of maiden’s favor So very short a time to cherish, to savor And there HE comes, banner streaming The one that starts your breath steaming To moisten cheeks with mimicked tears Leave unheard her cry as the hated nears Yet she entreats the fierce scaled beast Not to make himself a cooked tin feast With voice so sweet, not for this demure Called out the maiden, her tone so pure “Tell me, my prince with sword and steed What is there that validates such a deed? Yes, this dragon, this inspirer of thy fear Carried me off from a place I hold dear But who is he with the darker of minds He searches for love - look what he finds!” The sun shone down not on mercy that day As the story goes, the maid was stolen away A fearsome monster the knight laid to rest In courageous completion of his holy quest The lady, of course, she so gently bred Was lucky indeed that she was not dead For surely the dragon, with grievous intent B’spelled his captive without her consent For in a world of illusions and fairy tales Good hearts aren’t hidden by ugly detailsBefore anyone comes after me with a baseball bat, the last line in this poem is meant to be heavily sarcastic.
