Prayer of the Faithful
By KissTheSkyPH
Command us to bow down.Nurture us with your holy hypocrisy.Rain down your expectation like fire. We’re waiting. Can’t you see us on our knees? We’ve prepaid with prayer. Can’t you hear us?Doing your holy deedsWith our bless’d bloody hands. They haven’t done a thing to usBut we’re the innocent,The deserving,“The Chosen People”.We must prepare the way ofYou,The Lord,Who’ll baptize us with fireAs we persecute with flame.God and Jesus love usSo we’ve no need of shame.I love my neighborIf he’s just like meAnd keep the Sabbath holy.Remember meAnd welcome me to your armsWhen my crusade here is done.Forgiveness will cleanse these guilty hands; It’s the sacramental promise. But those unannointed,By either priest’s holy oilOr mortal sin,Will burn for their innocence,By virtue of your holy justice.Love me, Oh God,For I am your servantAnd a promise is a promise.January 2001, If you are an English teacher in a Catholic high school, do not assign a poem on religion. There will inevitably be some rather angsty people in regards to religion within such a school. You wont get what you expect out of all of your students.
