I am the diease (Challenge submission)

A mother holds her crying child Refusing him her breast For I am the disease that runs through her I am the disease that destroyed mankind I am the disease that you created Having God-like power You never stopped to think Never wondered about the chances taken Or just what you were creating So lost up in the marvel In the wonder... In the power of Gods No one saw me coming Like a thief in the night Stealing your breathe Slowly...one... at... a... time... I would ravage your insides Eating you away Turning your stomach inside out Twisting the intestines As they ate away at themselves Make you hunger for more But afraid to eat Most of you die of hunger Instead of me More than half the world was in pain Before you stopped to see It took presidents and Kings dying Before research even began This strange virus Seeming unstoppable Unknowing the cause And the fighting began French blamed the Italians Italians blamed the Irish Irish blamed the Scots The Scots blamed the English The English blamed the Americans And the Americans blamed the world Ten countries studied me Each separate, hoping for the first to claim victory over me Everyone vied for my attention Trying to find my roots... looking in all the wrong places Years flew by and millions died No closer to the answer than a cure And I hung out round laughing Enjoying my intrigue Twelve years it took to realize To finally see the answer was the beginning of the end What you saw as new hope Was God's finally answer to population control It start with a sheep, so fondly called "Dolly" To the cows you would "breed" to feed your hungry Had I not come on so strong Not had been so fierce an enemy You may have stopped me Had you not been so proud Your research better done I may never had grown But the cows produced your food And in them I grew The cloning had a side effect A strange manifestion A combination of a chain of events Leading to my creation I wonder sometimes if the thought The idea that it was YOU That destroyed YOU That killed you that much more I could only laugh at the irony And your cloned food, grew your food As I passed safely through my vessel of birth To the ground, in your gardens Hiding in the fruits of your labor Laughing as you calmly feed me to your childern And when they complained of a stomach aches You blamed it on the chocoalate cakes And sent them off to bed, ignoring your own churing pain By the time you found me I had safely destroyed hundreds of millions of you By the time you realized the cause I was in all of your food supply By the time I was done Your world was broken Kings died and gone Presidents were weeped and forgotten Mothers held dying childern In their own dying arms Crying from the pain (of me or them?) Slowly I die out Each and every one of you Lost to the great void Until there is but two humans left A woman and her newborn child A single mother left alone Holding her crying child in her arms Refusing him her breast Hoping she could give him some peace from the pain Knowing that feeding him will kill him And to not... Still the same And I wait as I destroy her For my last victory seems so sweet The innocent I will barely touch He dies as his mother weepsOk this was hard and SOO unlike me, but I actually had fun trying to write this... You had to write about a diease that wipes out all of mankind... AND it had to be more than 500 words.. UGH... it was fun none the less Written March 15th, 2002 © on Mar 15 2002 06:26 AM PST   0 • 9
