Silently I wait

It’s alone and quiet The children are in bed The soft clicking of the keyboard Its keeps me from going crazy My nights are always like this Me alone, you out there I spend the night worrying But you’ll never know I’ll never say This is life I never wanted A promise to myself you could say When that pager goes off And you go running Throwing on clothes you keep by the bed A hasty kiss as you dart away Love makes us do foolish things And foolishly I keep quiet Never share my fears About your job About your choice Your love A job with no glory Except the life you save The child you help People you come to know and worry about If you were a cop or firefighter Parades would be in your honor But everyone forgets the EMT A lesson I have sadly learned Unaware of the dinner you left Only to eat later cold The woman you have at home Hoping you make it home safe But I keep quiet In silent awe of you And the strength you hold As you lose another child Because someone was drinking and driving How you have seen the worst of people And save their lives anyway No, you’ll never have the glory But you’ll always have the love And you’ll always have me Silently at home Hoping and praying Worrying and wondering And loving you that much more for itIts not really all I wanted it to be...Its hard to put into emotion how I feel when he is gone Written November 14th, 2001 © on Nov 14 2001 12:15 PM PST   0 • 8
