Final Sonnet
By Lisanne
I want to die held gently in your arms But not today, for now is far too soon. When years to come present much greater charms Than sleep beneath the waning of this moon. For many silvered moons shall pass for me Before the call of rest becomes too sweet Now I shall spend my days in vanity And dance beneath a sun of golden heat. I challenge Death to cheat me from my aim Of lying in your arms for my last breath For I shall surely beat him at his game Or bargain for the moment of my death. If I cannot die cradled at your breast Then I've no use for sleep nor final rest.1999, Written December 3rd, 2001 © on Dec 03 2001 09:36 AM PST 0 • 8
