Cinderella Had A Ball

By Lone Poet

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

The reigning King leaked word of a spring ball, Dance to be paid for by his prince son, so dashing and tall Seeking a young maiden to romance and be wed, All who attend would be entertained and well fed Brave Cinderella couldn't prance around in a festive party dress, She was too busy cleaning and picking up after the rich family mess Anyway, her evil stepmother and bitchy, obese sisters locked her in, Told her she was their very own slave, laughed, flashing a wicked grin But Cindy knew better, she had a make-believe plan, In her head she wrote a desperate letter to her princely man Saying she was the secret lover of his boyhood dreams, And royalty's cover isn't always as good or credible as it seems For she was a princess of noble brow, ordered by fate's decree, Sold by her step dad, an ogre King, to her groveling step-sisters of three Illegitimate daughter of a rogue peasant and his divorced Queen, Until she grows old, Cinderella's crown is never to be seen So she cleans up the dusty place, Brushes her teeth, washes her face Then realizes she has nothing to wear, Cries her reddened eyes out, for her musty closet is bare Just then, a shimmery-orbed fairy Godmother magically appears, Tells her "hush, have no fear", and wipes away her dreadful tears Waves her glimmering wand, to reveal a pair of glass shoes and beaded gown; Spread the news; adorable Cinderella will be the most popular rave of the town!! Her Godmom turned a simple bug into a plush coach And said to rush, "for at midnight it turns back fast into a roach" Cindy gives her a sweet bear hug, and off she goes, Slim body floating on air; at last, her happiness shows Making a grand entrance, her buggy coach pulled up to a towering castle, She was the prettiest princess the whole Kingdom ever saw But when she walked powerfully inside the fabulous ballroom With a sideways glance, the Prince knew at once he was to become her groom Smiling proudly, they danced passionately for hours into the dark night, Oblivious to the hefty crowd, the stunning pair made such a heavenly sight Suddenly a sparkling Cinderella glanced at the gnomon on the sundial clock, And ran out, dropping her left slipper when she tripped over a rock She hopped to the parked coach and slid in at ten minutes to twelve, Almost midnight, her strung out stepsisters were just leaving themselves They didn't know Cinderella was there having fun at the mobbed ball, But assumed she was at home, amongst not even one stupid fop at all A blonde Cinderella got home just in the nick of time, As her beautiful ball gown turned into icky pond slime And the great roach coach returned quickly to being a small bug The ugly stepsisters came back, but in her stark bed she was now snug Weepy-eyed Cindy was faking and pretended to sleep, From behind the kitchen door, wearing rags, she snuck a peep As they fried bacon and gossiped about the lucky lady on the dance floor, Each hag whispered and confided that they wanted to hear more Who was that cutey that won the handsome Prince's heart? For she was so lovely, humble, coy, sincere, and smart They each bragged, annoyed, mumbling under their foul-smelling breaths, Vowing to snag the wealthy King's son, even if it meant the maiden's death Little did they know, the lone heir to the throne was depressed, For he knew not of the kindly, fair-haired girl in braids and a fancy party dress He found her glass slipper and chanced searching every single house, Trying to find that one lass who'd wear his ring and become his loyal spouse All unmarried maidens tried to wiggle into the slight princess's shoe, But none of them could get their big toes perfectly through Whoever fit it would be the rightful owner, and a wife so true, Partner to a royal chosen few, carried away for a life anew As the caring Prince knocked upon a frightened Cinderella's door, Her much hated step-sisters asked whatever was he there for Told them he was looking for his unknown soul mate and bride-to-be, Unaware that until she's grown too old and ill, locked up inside, she'll never be free Strong-willed Cindy came out of her tiny dust heap of a bedroom, And swept several cobwebs with a long bristled broom The ungrateful step-sisters lied and wrongly whipped her, But she cleverly asked if she could try on the shiny slipper Singing songs, each fatso put on the shoe, taking turns, But fitting too tight, their sore feet swelled and burned Then the wise Prince saw petite Cinderella's face, And asked if that night before she was at his palace; The sisters still lied, but he begged her to fill the size five shoe, Her slender legs slid right in, and then he just knew She was the one, the pale girl of his youthful dreams, He learned the truth about her step-mom and the sisters' earlier horrid schemes; The unforgiving Prince threw them into jail and had a well-earned vacation, wedded to Cinderella, And they lived happily ever after instead, so there's no more tale to tell The moral of this sappy story Is to always have hope and not worry, 'Cause one of these days your sorry step-kin Will hang by their own rope and you'll be free again!
