Follow Your Stars

By Lone Poet

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

Never be ashamed of who you are Always follow your own lucky star And your dreams will carry you far Remember, time heals every scar May your journey in life Bless you as man and wife Cut those losses with a knife Forget all pain and strife Pick yourself up and fly To the starriest azure sky Live and learn until you die Don't turn back or wonder why Just follow that sparkle in your eyes One dark day you will finally realize You are the brightest star shining in the skies And that's the universe’s best prize! © 1/22/02, 1/1/06 SmSIn the movie, "A Knight's Tale", John Thatcher sends his son William away as a boy to become a squire for a great knight, to give William the kind of life that he could never have as a peasant. Young William loved the jousting tournaments and dreamed of being a knight someday, but an old man laughs and says a peasant could never be a knight, it's like changing the stars...impossible, as that status was reserved only for those of noble ancestry. William asks his father if it's possible to change his "stars", meaning his fate, did he have to be destined as a peasant or could he make a better life? So John says "if he believes hard enough, a man can do anything". As he brings his son to his new home with the knight, he says goodbye and tells William to go change his stars and return someday after he becomes a great knight. William asks how he will know how to find his way back again and his father simply says, "Follow your feet"... And that William did, 12 years later he finally found his way home to his father in England, and made a better new life...after he bravely changed his stars and went on to become one of the world's greatest jousting champions and a full-fledged "noble" knight, against all odds. Knights Tale inspired me to write this poem, about how you can do or be anything if you truly believe with all your heart and soul, and work hard...but always stay true to yourself, never be ashamed of who you are or try to be someone you're not just to impress others and act like a big shot. So anytime you find yourself in a rut, unhappy with your life and feel like it's going nowhere, just keep your head high, look to the starry sky, and follow your wildest dreams...then remind yourself that YES, dreams do come true and fate isn't set in stone, we all have free will and can shape our destiny the way we want...now go change your stars and shine!!
