I Shall Not Cry
By Lone Poet
I shall not permit pride to sit by idly and sigh, I shall put stifling pain aside, invisibly, then mourn demon clad terrorist planes and missiles hiding in the sky, for all those innocent children, life so inhumanely scorned I shall never emit a sad sound or weep I'll stay dry and emotionally reserved, I won't rest, lay down, halt, or sleep until sweet judicial desserts are served I shall not ever, ever release a blind sob as salty optical saline secretions of defeat well up, I will gratefully strive to do my patriotic job and seek to refill freedom's kindhearted cup I shall cease to leak a single drop and I will cope, for within this unstoppable drum that beats so freely echoes faith's triumph to keep alive peace and hope, ringing Lady Liberty's bell from sea to shining sea I shall never scream nor whimper or yell, of divine victory I'll dream comes high water or Hades' hell I shall not let out one somber wail or battle cry, but promise our great land I will honor and defend I'll bravely stand tall and fight, kill, even die, trying to save our nation's flag, to the bitter end I shall never shriek or bawl, I'll utter not one weak boo-hoo or be enslaved by the evil we saw, I shall speak only of what is good and true I will pray for strength, courage, God's infinite love and mercy, I will pray, too, for all those tragic souls, vets, firefighters, everyday heroes - living or dead; I will always remember the body bags upon that ill-fated anniversary, the September morn American blood, sweat and tears were senselessly shed; ...but I shall NOT cry.
