Playhouse In The Park (Cure For Cancer)
By Lone Poet
I was taking a leisurely walk in the park With a friend late one cool mid summer night, When we caught a hazy glimpse of something in the dark Our surprised eyes spotted the most enchanting sight Suddenly a flying squirrel and a panda bear Were dancing to a band, furry paws hand in hand, I just couldn't help it, I stood there and stared Spying this sweet pair’s romance upon a woodland The merry duo saw us standing in their path Then broke out of character and started to laugh, Little did we know, those two silly creatures Were featured performers at a local theatre The amateur actors were rehearsing parts for a charity play To show dying cancer patients in a pediatric infirmary ward, Terminally ill babies, tiny hearts growing full of dismay Watching these kids suffer mercilessly was just so hard We prayed for a permanent remission or miracle cure, And lit white candles so their work might help the sick During intermission I answered phones and sold tickets at the door, On opening night all seats in the playhouse filled up quick © 12/18/01, 3/23/04 SmSThis is purely fiction Written February 5th, 2002 © on Feb 05 2002 09:30 AM PST, Sheryl Marcia Schwartz 11 • 5 • 4
