Writer In Me (POETRY ADDICTION ASSIGNMENT)
By Lone Poet
Pen and paper Black carbon ink Great crime caper Makes me think Writing is not just a chore It’s freedom of expression And a whole hell of a lot more Relieves feelings of depression I love to write Brings me peace Alone at night Emotional release I find writing's just right for me Sets the passionate muse inside me free To contemplate my every blues-inspiring word Tirelessly write stories nobody else has heard Writing is something I truly enjoy Like a little kid getting a brand new toy Can’t stop playing with it, day or night Pondering over it makes me want to write If ever I publish my works for pay I'll kiss goodbye to all those jerks I'd never amount to much, they'd say That I was a total failure and such I like a poem that's fresh and new One that speaks from a heart so true In my sleep I dream of romance novels With copyrights typed under the covers Picked a nom de plume only I know Hope my talent continues to grow In a competitive world such as this Doubt my real name anyone would miss The writer in me loves to read It fills a void, a human need I read about anything that I like Provides nourishment for the psyche To act out other lives within a book When mine was always being overlooked Although I've tried many creative arts Poetry holds the key to human hearts If in life I would never have to lose I'd be a sci-fi writer, if I had to choose Over being a Hollywood movie star For me, writing's the best by far Writing isn't easy, it takes luck and skill Still, it's a special gift that can fulfill Greeting cards and children's stories Don't quite pay your heating bill ('Tho you may get plenty of money worries) If you truly aspire to write It must be done purely out of fun Unless your writings are so outta sight Financial rewards are next to none Opportunity is out there, just have to look Hey, even my future is bright as the sun I'm publishing my first poetry book Too bad I still haven't begun (c) 10/00, 3/04 SmSSheer, here's my poetry addiction assignment! This says it pretty plainly, I hope. Let me know what you think, ok? Written February 2nd, 2002 © on Feb 12 2002 02:33 PM PST, Sheryl Marcia Schwartz 18 • 8 • 4
