A Friend
By Lynxear
Made a friend the other day, known him for years now. never spoke, just waved, rushing through our daily crisis. Words were finally uttered, common ground discovered. a laugh, a joke, having coffee on a sunny afternoon. Survivor of the Holocaust, I listened to his tales. of sorrow, of sacrifice, making my doubts seem quite petty. His vacant eyes then brightened, with the running of a child. bouncing hair, devil-may-care, with all the joy of innocent life. So now we meet on purpose, talk about life and health. gardening, sunsets, never at loss for words. Walking down the street, a smiling wave I greet. a stranger, from nowhere, I’ll think I’ll have a chat. (c) Jim Apr/98 Written November 8th, 2001 © on Nov 08 2001 02:05 PM PST 0 • 10
