Have You Ever...

Have You Ever....... Have you ever sat by the shore of a lake in the early summer’s dawn? Patches of mist swirl ghostly on the water’s glassy calm. The silence lies unbroken except for the mournful call of a loon. A distant fish splashes, leaping on high, as if trying to capture the moon. Have you ever stood on a prairie knoll as thunderstorms form in the west? Black clouds roar, spitting arrogant fire, as they advance in search of their quest. The wind rips your hair as you reach with your arms open wide to the sky. You drink the strength of nature’s power with a feeling as though you could fly. Have you ever woken from a midnight dream, feeling warm, a smile on your lips? Visions remain of a lost passion’s flame, a chance meeting of two passing ships. A glance at emptiness beside you, brings reality, painfull and cruel. You roll to your side, with a tear in your eye, knowing you once were a fool. (c)  Jim      May/96This is my first poem...
