Who Was It?
By Mad Moon
~ ♥ ~ Who was there to hear your cries and bandage your scraped knees? Who sang to you those lullabies? I know it wasn't me. Who was it then, that dressed you up; put ribbons in your hair? Who watched you drink from your first cup? I know I wasn't there. Who was it heard when you first spoke, and bounced you on their knee? Who was it wiped your runny nose, and rocked you back to sleep? Who was it watched your first few steps when you first learned to walk? Who taught you how to say the words, when you first learned to talk? Who helped you pick your first school clothes, and walked you to the bus? Whose heart ached as it pulled away when you made such a fuss? Who went with you on "Teacher's Day," and joined the PTA? Who watched you step onto the stage as part of your school play? Who bought you your first evening dress, and told you "Not Too Late?" Who sat to wait for your return the night of your first date? You cannot gauge the hurt and pain. Nor can you count the cost; Of missing all those "firsts" with you, that caused this sense of loss. I only know I could not share in who you have become. I only know I wasn't there, to hear you call Me "Mom." ~ ♥ ~For my daughter, Adrienne, who was stolen from me when she was only 2, and I did not see again till she was 18. I Love You!!
