Be Brave
Be brave, I heard her say. Underneath, her tone said more. Her hand clung to yours in soft desperation, wanting you to linger yet go. She told me you were afraid of what lay beyond earth's sky of blue. Your fight for life was near the end and fear covered you in darkness. I took the other hand, skeletal as it was. Eyelids flickered as I spoke of things not clear to me. Things like angels and prayers in quiet tones. Remembrances of times past when God touched your face with His tears of rain. As I spoke, your fingers eased their grip. I covered your wasted frailness with antiseptic sheets of cool linen. At their touch, you shivered. I leaned close to your ear, reminded you that angel wings were now enfolding you. Their soft, white warmth would ease the cold between earth's blue and God's gold. And you rested, content to be for just a moment longer till family love would send you home on peaceful angel wings. ~~dedicated to Dan, age 43, who left earth's blue on 8/01~~ Written September 9th, 2001 © on Sep 09 2001 03:37 AM PST 10 • 0 • 13
