Words to my heart

By mtpoet

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

Words to my heart I thought I could write at sixteen after reading Whitman & Dickinson & some sensual woman poet whose name I have long forgotten--quite. I thought I could write words to my heart as lean as e e cummings wrote, words leading me after his following, this man, these women, into the inner dimension of my soul. As is, however, usual I was the last to know: it was not my heart that is the song I would come to write. When I undressed my first word, the moon was small & passing the island of Poros, getting out of the way of sunrise. Written January 12th, 2002 © on Jan 12 2002 04:22 AM PST, Rudy Thomas   0 • 10
