She Cries No More

In the dark and balmy skies of the blackened summers night, I sense the chilling dangers coming before the mornings light. . I hear a piercing scream just outside, do I dare go see, Or sit here in my safe place and worry about only me. It’s just the neighbors once again why does she always take him back, I’ve seen her so very many times with broke bones and bruises blue and black. Again the scream, a sound of death a woman’s voice I hear, Pleading to god for some one to help sounding of panic and fear. This I can take no more, yes I must see what’s going on, And as I peered outside my curtains edge just out past the lawn. I see her husband dragging her, her knees bleeding her face black and blue, And pray to god right then and there to help her and get her through, Until help arrives and she could be saved I dialed 911 and said, I need the police and an ambulance you’d better hurry or she’ll be dead. Again she screams and pleads with him , please stop your killing me, I see his arm thrust up and down and in his hand something I could not see. And once again those words she said, stop your killing me, they haunt me still today For when the police had finally come he had gone away. And left her there like a piece of trash discarded in the street, Like she meant noting to him just garbage beneath his feet. Her hopes and dreams I now saw draining from her body and soul Pouring over the street outside she will now never reach her goals. Of motherhood and long cool walks the simple little things, Like warm soft kittens and cute little pups and the birds in the morn as they sing. I felt the tears roll down my face and turned and walked away, Knowing that only by gods good grace I shall see another day. To see my children grow to watch the rain fall down, To keep the promises I have made to see places I am bound. So if you think he’s going to change than you really are a fooling yourself, And you will end up just like her in the morgue upon a shelf. With all your hopes and dreams gone your soul set free to soar And then the silence swept the earth and she shall cry no more Written June 17th, 2001 © on Jun 17 2001 04:08 PM PST   0 • 1 • 10
