The Outcome
By Pandemonium
A few deep breaths, I stand and wait Pretending to be reading about some sort of mammoth tooth I hear her voice and don my face Time to find out the truth We walk together, somewhat in stride Idle chit-chat makes her smile I quell the butterflies and swallow my pride Preparing to sprint my mile She questions if it was a paper that drew me out And I reply with "Maybe" I follow with "Maybe I wanted to ask you out." Any problem with that? Are you free? "Well, it wouldn't be, except for my boyfriend of almost 3 years. The one I'll probably end up marrying." "Oh, he may not like that," I respond, forced to face my fears. So much for the weight I was carrying. We continue our walk into the sun I playfully continue the pace Chalk up rejection, another one My hopes drift off into space. This is the sequel to my other poem "Anticipation." Side note--I almost made that last line read "It's not my fault she lacks taste!" :-P Written April 11th, 2002 © on Apr 11 2002 04:56 AM PST 18 • 0 • 1
