When I write I touch deep the essence That makes me man Quintessential it remains locked Even as I feel what should be It is a mirror that I can never face For I am my last admirer And my disillusionment is not The bane I want to taste So short words and a mere hint Of that soul inside Is all that I let be free No more than a shadow, less than a sigh Sometimes I ask what would be If once Just once I shined a light in there But those shades and shadows Flake the spirit out And I’m not Ulysses To enter my personal Hades When I write I touch deep that essence….
