She Carries
By plumbgrl15
She was holding his hand the night he slipped away, And if you knew her at all you'd see the blame she carries. It was a quiet love that most would overlook, But to this girl it was life turning round. She had never been the girl that others always saw, But he saw her and that was all it took. He fought his way into her world of hidden treasures, And he planted in her a seed of faithfulness. He brought her out of her self-made shell, And she cherished him beyond measure. The days went by and she became a person she'd never been, But somewhere deep inside he just couldn't reach into. He gave her all he had and she loved him just the same, But somewhere deep inside she couldn't let him in. It was a cold day when he left her behind, And she couldn't say a word. For he gave everything to keep her safe that night, But the means to let go she couldn't find. She had tried to forget her past mistakes, But they had found her once again. Now her one love in life lay cold, And no excuses could she make. She was holding his hand the night he slipped away, And if you knew her at all you'd see the blame she carries. Not a personal experience, but I have seen a similar story take place. So sad to blame yourself for something that you can't control. Written December 18th, 2001 © on Dec 18 2001 03:01 PM PST 0 • 1
