*Please Note! Before ducks do their 'number 2', they run backwards* Lucky, A Favorite Family Pet It was Easter ten years ago, when the kids were kinda' small, the wife had a new thought, I figured... was off the wall. The old friendly dime store. was having their big sale. The kids had to get more, so goes... this little tale. Not enough, a chocolate bunny with Easter eggs to eat plus a little spending money, they still wanted a new treat. In the place, were hundreds of tiny baby chirping birds, chickens, ducks and others yet I chose to hold my words. When asked 'can we get one', feeling generous, I said 'ok'. Having a duck... no idea, the things to come my way. We all called him Lucky, it was easily plain to see... a cute fellow so mellow, he was loved as family. Like a duck to water, he took sitting in my lap. even climbing my shoulder when he liked to take a nap, riding along places we meet, shopping, visiting and such. The folks would say 'how sweet' he was talked about so much. Everyone there wanted him, till time nature made it's call, when Lucky duck went backing up and that part would end it all. He was a whole lot of fun. He always wanted to play, but if backwards he'd run, It'd Be Time To Get Away! Messy thing, that's for sure... every time we'd turn around, he did it often like clockwork, They're a job so I've found. He was a dear little friend, so close did he get to me, but good things come to end as we released him so sadly. Growing big, getting restless, his caring was out of control. His box got such a mess... It was time to let him go. Dearly missed a little later, everyone wanted to go see if we could find Lucky duck, but no luck, he was history. Yet to hold to his memory, we visit his new domain. He was out there somewhere, we knew he was happy again. There's a moral to my story; that's not take a duck home. If you love ducks, I suggest visit them where they roam. That's now what we do, whenever we think of him, grab bread, a drink or two, see and feed all of them. *In memory of a special little friend Written October 28th, 2001 © on Jan 09 2002 11:25 AM PST, Thomas Crumpler   0 • 14
