Gap
You were one, he was twenty six, Wouldn't even kiss your cheek, Babies bibs and toothless smiles, Why would he look at you? You were eight, he was thirty three, Wouldn't even cross his mind, Patterned dresses and ballet shoes, Why would he look at you? You turned fifteen, he became forty, Wouldn't even turn his head, Braces on teeth and blushered cheeks, Why would he look at you. You turned twenty, and he became old, Suddenly he turned his head, To pay you attention and so much more, But why would you look at him? This poem aims to look at the irony of age gap relationships where at some point one person would have been a child while the other was an adult, yet later in life they make a connection. This is not a judgement upon such relationships, but merely aims to provide one potential viewpoint on them. Written April 14th, 2002 © on Apr 14 2002 08:53 AM PST 0 • 9
