drink horse, drink

By Richard J Sereday Jr

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

I have led you to this glorious oasis, drink horse, drink. Partake of the water so cool, crisp and clear. Chase your thirst away, this water, it awaits, and for you alone. All elements in place to relieve your parched dry throat. But you do not drink, how can this be, I led you to this place for thee. Why is it that you won't drink here, what could it be that is your fear. And the horse said, I once was in a place like this, you see and all the world seemed right. Though that is how it first appeared, I had a dreadful fright. I dropped my head, to have a drink and in my reflection I did see, Me and me alone in this world, no place I want to be. Singularly, solitary, solo, unaccompanied. So now we know why, "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink" I am this horse.
