Haunted

As she laid in her bed, she saw people walking about, in her room and down the hall. Some would stop and stare at her lying there, without saying a word. "Will you please help me get dressed, I can't do it myself" she would say. And all they would do was laught at her and walk away, with an indifferent stare. She could not believe how mean they could be, to treat an old lady in this way. She had always been so kind her whole life through, to anyone who crossed her path. And now when she needed someone to be nice to her, she couldn't find one kind soul. The boy in her room, what was he doing there, with that paper bag on his head? How silly could he be and that glass faced man on the wall, why was he laughting at we? Her Mom dropped in to say hello, but only for a time so short, said she will be back before too long, I wonder for whatever for? So I wonder if all these people that no one else sees, I wonder can they be real. Or are they coming to her from both sides, because to both she is so near. This is from just one visit to Grandma, 89 years old in the hospital with broken hip and surgery, and everytime she goes through these traumas she seems to see more from the other side. People would think she is losing her mind, but I can not really say for sure. Maybe she is visited by those she will soon join. I guess we will never know. She was leaning way over in her chair so I put mine next to hers and leaned over to meet her half way. She laid her head on my shoulder as I laid my head on hers and we talked. Who knows when we will share our last visit on this side, so I treasure each and every one. Written December 19th, 2001 © on Dec 19 2001 01:34 AM PST   0 • 1
