misconstrued

By Richard J Sereday Jr

Topics: Poetry Source: AllPoetry Original source

My kind heart, and gentle ways, my sincere eyes, and their warm inviting glow, all these things have drawn you to me, but in ways I just do not know how to respond to. My love of fellow human, is there for one and all. You see it in my loving smile, and the hand I do hold out to help you along your way. An embrace to each that has the need, as my understanding and compassion I do lend, but it is that and nothing more. My understanding words, I'm affaid that you have misconstrued, for something they are not. My child, you are so very young, your whole life ahead of you, and I can plainly see, with someone closer to your age, is the place where you should be. I have lived the life that you're just starting, and when you are in full bloom, I will be old and grey. I do not think I am what you really want or what you truely need. I know that you have been abused by the one that said "I do" and you left him far behind, and I know you would feel so safe in the arms of this father figure that you see I me. But please, just hold your dreams in your heart until they become reality, but do not try to rush those things that will come in their own time.
